What is Origins Education?

Origins vs. Science

Evolution dominates our books, televisions, and schools. Most of the time it is being stated as absolute fact when it should not even be considered a theory. Biology, chemistry, physics, and astronomy are all branches of operational science. Operational science involves doing tests that are empirical, observable, and measurable. The study of origins is not a part of operational science because no amount of observation of what happens today can ever prove what happened yesterday, instead origins is a part of forensics, or a historical science. Since direct observation is not possible we must use the principals of uniformity or causality to determine the plausibility of the events that happened in the past.

Why is it Important?

There is only two options on the origin of the universe. Either God created it or it created itself. If the universe created itself then we should eat, drink, and be merry because tomorrow we may die. Every day 150,000 people die and you're going to be dead for much longer than you're going to be alive. If there is no God and everything evolved then someone needs to step up and tell everyone else what the standard of right and wrong is. Who determines what the law should be? Should we take a vote? Where should that vote be held? In Germany in 1939? In Afghanistan in 2001?

If the Bible is true and God created the universe then we already have a standard of right and wrong. Romans 3:20 tells us that “by the law is the knowledge of sin.” The ninth commandment (Exodus 20) says “Thou shalt not bear false witness”. How many times in your life have you told a lie? The eighth commandment says “Thou shalt not steal.” Have you ever stolen something, regardless of its value? Have you ever taken something from work that was not yours? The seventh commandment says “Thou shalt not commit adultery” but Jesus said “That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.”

If the universe created itself then right and wrong are all in the eyes of the beholder and no one has the right to tell others what they are doing is wrong. If the Bible is true then God “commandeth all men every where to repent: Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness” (Acts 17:30). “Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God” (1 Corinthians 6:9-10). “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death” (Revelation 21:8).

Believing in evolution or believing in creation is irrelevant if evolution is true. You can believe whatever you want as long as you aren't hurting anyone and when you die nothing matters. If creation is true then there is a God and there is absolute truth. If God were to judge you by the standard of the Ten Commandments would you be innocent or guilty? “For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all” (James 2:10). Would you go to heaven or hell?

Lets say you were arrested for driving 55 mph through a school zone where 15 mph was clearly posted as being the speed limit. When you are brought before the judge, willing to justify yourself, you explain how sorry you are and explain how you do many more good things than bad things. Yet the judge cannot let you free because you have transgressed the law. A good judge has to punish law breakers otherwise he would not be a good judge. The fine of $50,000 has been set. Being unable to pay the fine the judge sentences you to prison. Just as they are about to lead you away someone that you don't even know comes into the court and pays your fine for you. The court accepts the payment and you are set free.

2,000 years ago God himself paid your fine. The wrath of God rests upon all that have sinned “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him” (Romans 5:8-9). The only way to be justified is by faith in Jesus. Trust in Jesus as you would trust a parachute. It is not enough to know that a parachute will save you when you jump but you have to put your trust in it, and put it on. Repent, and put your faith in Jesus (Romans 1-6).

So what is origins education and why is it important?


If evolution is true then its not important. You should probably just ignore it and spend your time living your best life now because it will soon be over.

If creation is true then you better figure out who the Creator is and do what he wants.
