Is Jesus God? Jesus is God.

2 John 1:9

Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.

The majority of false religions, false teachings, and cults arise from an incorrect understanding of who God is. The apostle John warned in his second epistle that if you do not correctly understand who Christ is, then you do not believe in the correct God.

In John 14:6 Jesus declares that He is the only way to God. Again in Matthew 12:30 Jesus gives only two options: You are either with Him, or you are against Him. According to Jesus, every other religion is false.

The deity of Christ and the concept of the Trinity were agreed upon in the early church because of the clear teaching of scripture. Several creeds, such as the Nicene Creed and Athanasian Creed, were written as a confirmation of what was already known and being taught, mainly that the Father is God, Jesus is God, and the Holy Spirit is God.

Below are several portions of scripture that describe who God is.

Trinity

There is only one God

Deuteronomy 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord:

Malachi 6:10 Have we not all one father? hath not one God created us? why do we deal treacherously every man against his brother, by profaning the covenant of our fathers?

Mark 12:29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:

Romans 3:30 Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith.

James 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

God refers to himself as more than one person:

Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

Genesis 3:22 And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:

Genesis 11:7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.

Isaiah 6:8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.

The name of Jesus, the Father, and the (Holy) Spirit are used interchangeably:

2 Corinthians 3:15 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

Ephesians 1:17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:

The Holy Spirit is a person (only a person can be vexed):

Isaiah 63:10 But they rebelled, and vexed his holy Spirit: therefore he was turned to be their enemy, and he fought against them.

Jesus used the Spirit to talk to the Father:

Luke 10:21 In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight.

The Father has a will - The Son has a will - The Holy Spirit has a will:

Luke 22:42 Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.

1 Corinthians 12:11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

Jesus commands to baptize in the 'name' (singular) of God, not 'names' (plural) of God:

Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

The Father knows all things - The Son knows all things – The Holy Spirit knows all things.

1 John 3:20 For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.

John 21:17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

1 Corinthians 2:10-11 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.

The Father speaks – The Jesus speaks – The Holy Ghost speaks:

Matthew 3:17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

John 12:28 Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Acts 8:29 Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.

Acts 13:2 As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.

The Father can be blasphemed - Jesus can be blasphemed - The Holy Spirit can be blasphemed:

Revelation 13:6 And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven.

Luke 22:65 And many other things blasphemously spake they against him.

Mark 3:29 But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Spirit has never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal judgment:

God the Father raised Jesus from the dead – The Holy Spirit raised Jesus from the dead – Jesus raised Himself from the dead:

--- Father

Galatians 1:1 Paul, an apostle, (not of men, neither by man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised him from the dead;)

Romans 6:4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

--- Holy Spirit

Romans 8:11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

1 Peter 3:18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:

--- Son

John 2:19 Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.

John 10:17 Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.

One Spirit, One Lord, One God and Father:

Ephesians 1:17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:

Ephesians 2:18 For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.

Ephesians 4:4-6 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

1 Corinthians 12:4-6 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.

Is Jesus God? Jesus is God.

John 10:30 I and my Father are one.

Jesus is God with us:

Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

Matthew 1:22-23 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

God Himself was manifested in the flesh:

1 Timothy 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

John 1:1&14 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God... And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Colossians 2:9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

Jesus is called LORD (Jehovah) and God:

Only God is to be worshiped – Jesus was worshiped:

God said they will pierce Me - Jesus was pierced:

Zechariah 12:10 And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.

Revelation 1:7 Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.

God purchased the church with His blood:

Acts 20:28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.

God was the creator – The LORD (Jehovah) was the creator – Jesus was the creator:

Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

Jeremiah 51:14-15 The Lord of hosts hath sworn by himself, saying, Surely I will fill thee with men, as with caterpillers; and they shall lift up a shout against thee. The LORD is the King of glory – Jesus is the Lord of glory:

Psalm 24:7-10 Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle. Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.

John 8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

Jesus claimed to be equal with God:

Matthew 12:8 For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.

John 10:30-33 I and my Father are one. Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him. Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me? The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.

Jesus did things that only God can do:

Mark 2:5-7 When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee. But there were certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts, Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only?

John 5:21-22 For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will. For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:
